The Open Forum on Sustainability and Responsible Sourcing in the Jewelry Industry

Resources - Diamonds

This document is prepared by the Research Subcommittee to provide links to selected documents of interest to the subject of responsible sourcing of diamonds.  These concern examples of legal requirements, voluntary standards, association and company practices, and “supply chain challenges” (a separate note concerning these “challenges” appears below in that section).  This document is not intended to be exhaustive or the official view of any particular individual or company, but rather a background review document that can help educate Summit attendees about some of the underlying issues and steps taken to address them.  Where links may not be self-explanatory, clarifying parentheticals have been added.

The Research Subcommittee welcomes comments or suggestions.

Possible “Supply Chain Challenges” Pertaining to the Diamond Supply Chain

For purposes of this document, a “supply chain challenge” is simply an official report or other official statement or information that a reasonably compliant businessperson would seek to follow up on.  These are not necessarily indicators that trade must be altered, but rather information that responsible sourcing practices would suggest need to be investigated and understood further to evaluate potential action.

The links below come from recent governmental or other official sources.  No media or NGO reports have been used as links in this section, but these may add further detail to the highlighted challenges.
