Edward Bickham has served as a Senior Adviser to the World Gold Council on the development of the Conflict-Free Gold Standard (2010-13) and the creation of the Responsible Gold Mining Principles (since 2017) and on the interface between large-scale and artisanal and small-scale mining. He is a Trustee and Chair of the Programme Committee of Care International UK and was Chair of the Institute of Business Ethics (2014-2019).
Edward was Executive Vice President, External Affairs of Anglo American plc (2000-2009). He has also played a prominent role in the development and implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. He was a member of the working group that drafted the Gold Supplement to the OECD Guidance on the Responsible Sourcing of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas. He is a Director of the International Cyanide Management Institute which oversees the operation of the International Cyanide Management Code.
He was Special Adviser to the UK Foreign Secretary (1990-93) and Home Secretary (1985-88) and was also involved in the establishment of satellite broadcasting in the UK (1985-8). He graduated in law from Oxford University.
Director of Sourcing and Refining, Argor-Heraeus
Phaedon Stamatopoulos is Chemical Engineer by training, holding a BA & MEng from the University of Cambridge and an MSc. from London Imperial College. He spent eleven years in the catalyst industry for chemical applications with jobs at Johnson Matthey in the UK and Süd Chemie in Germany, which was also his first contact with precious metals, their applications and uses in the catalytic industry and fine chemicals. In 2012 Phaedon joined Argor-Heraeus as Director of Sourcing and Refining. This role involves the sourcing of precious metals from all around the world (mines – whether artisanal or industrial) or recycled (post-consumer/industrial). A core activity of Argor Heraeus has been the establishing of secure and segregated supply chains between individual sources and the final consumer, for example in the luxury watch & jewellery, investment or banking sectors. Argor’s commitment to sourcing responsible artisanal gold and creating secure supply chains is also demonstrated through our efforts in collaborating with UNIDO, UNEP, GEF, Swiss Better Gold, the vice-presidency in the Swiss Precious Metals Fabricators Association and membership on the RJC’s Standards Committee.

Adiki Ofeibea Ayitevie was appointed as Vice President, Sustainability & External Relations in 2018 having previously served as Senior Director, Communications & External Relations of Newmont Africa. Ms. Ayitevie oversees Newmont Africa’s environmental, social responsibility, site government relations, systems & services, communications and external relations sub-functions. Ms. Ayitevie is an accomplished and well-respected sustainability professional with in-depth knowledge and expertise in social performance, strategic communications, crisis and issues management, brand positioning and reputation management. Her experience prior to Newmont includes roles at Volta River Authority, Société Générale Ghana Bank, and Public Agenda Newspaper. She also holds an Executive MA degree in Communications from IE School of Human Sciences & Technology, Spain; a Post Grad Diploma in Communications from University of Ghana; and a B.A. in English and a Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast. She has twice been voted as one of the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining for demonstrating skills and attributes that inspire a new generation of professionals in all walks of the mining industry.

Mr. Hanna is Chief Marketing Officer of Richline Group, Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway Company. During Mark’s 47 years in the jewelry industry, he has had experience in all facets of management, manufacturing, marketing, sales and compliance. Prior to this position, he served (1996 – 2007) as EVP Sales and Marketing for both Bel-Oro International and Michael Anthony Jewelers. Mark was honored in 2015 and 2018 as CMO of Year, Corporate Social Responsibility, by the CMO Club. Additionally, he is a board member of Special Olympics and the Responsible Jewellery Council plus an active member and contributor to the Manufacturing Jewelers Association, the CMO Club and the Wildlife Trafficking Association. He is a graduate of Manhattan College and received an MBA, Marketing, from NYU Stern School of Business.
Mike Pace is Vice Chair and Marketing Lead for the Jewelry Industry Summit. He has broad experience in marketing jewelry at B2B and B2C levels, including senior roles developing category advertising, PR and digital marketing campaigns for the World Gold Council, The Diamond Producers Association and the Lab Grown Diamond Council. Through these organizations he has helped develop and promote sustainability initiatives and standards for responsible supply of jewelry in both the gold and diamond categories. As owner of Connected Jewelry LLC, Michael provides digital marketing consultancy services and is currently retained by the Rapaport Group to manage the development and marketing of ecommerce and online auction platforms for the commercialization of jewelry with a focus on responsibly sourced diamonds, recycled and estate jewelry.
Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri has served for the past 19 years as president of CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation. Uniting national jewellery and gemstone associations from more than 40 countries, and including many of the industry’s major corporations and international associations, CIBJO is the industry’s oldest international organization, having been established in 1926. It covers the entire jewellery, gemstone and precious metals sectors from mine to marketplace, within each of the component sectors in the various production, manufacturing and trading centres.
In 2006, Dr. Cavalieri was responsible CIBJO receiving “Special Consultative Status” with United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), making it the first and only jewellery and gemstone representative to be officially recognized by the international body.
Iris has a background in law and international relations. She is a sustainability pioneer, leadership executive, humanitarian, and coalition-builder, with more than 20 years of global experience working in fast-paced environments including technology, diamonds, jewelry, fashion, and government. She initiated and chaired the United Nations Global Compact Network Belgium, for which she was honored by the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is committed to the agenda of gender equality. She was appointed as RJC Executive Director in March 2019 and is dedicated to a ‘members first’ strategy and the 17 Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). She is member of the Board of ISEAL and the Jewelers Vigilance Committee. Iris has been an active volunteer for the Special Olympics for over 30 years. She ran the NY marathon for UNICEF.
Monica Stephenson is the founder of award-winning jewelry blog idazzle.com in 2008, and the responsible gemstone company ANZA Gems in 2015. ANZA Gems fuels development in Kenya and Tanzania through fair trade gem purchasing and supports education initiatives in gem mining communities. She recently collaborated with NGO Pact, the Tanzania Women Miners Association, and Everledger on Moyo Gems, a traceable model to bring gems from women miners of Tanga, Tanzania to the international market. Monica is on the international Board of Directors of the Women’s Jewelry Association and current President of the Board of Ethical Metalsmiths, and is a frequent speaker about responsible sourcing and social media. Toby Pomeroy is the founder of Toby Pomeroy Co., located in Corvallis, Oregon, an accomplished designer and passionate advocate for a responsible jewelry industry. He studied Jewelry & Metalsmithing at the University of Oregon and received his Graduate Gemologist and Certified Gemologist certifications from GIA. Toby pioneered EcoGold— socially and environmentally responsible gold from Hoover and Strong Refiners. Toby is the only US member serving on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Responsible Mining. Alliance for Responsible Mining.
Sara Yood is a New York attorney with extensive experience in intellectual property law. Sara’s responsibilities at JVC include anti-money laundering, the FTC Jewelry Guides , trademark litigation, copyright, advertising monitoring, legal compliance and strategy. She is a legal expert on the importation and exportation of animal materials used in jewelry and has authored multiple JVC publications. Yood came to JVC from a fellowship at the Fashion Law Institute at Fordham Law School, where she received her law degree. She is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. Yood also serves as the Treasurer and on the board of the Women’s Jewelry Association and is a member of the Fashion Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association.
